Box office collection : Thuppakki earns 11.03 cr, Podaa Podi earns 5.02 cr on opening day

Chennai, Nov 15 (TruthDive): This year Diwali’s Tamil release movies Vijay’s Thuppakki and Simbu’s Podaa Podi have made good impact at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Thuppakki opened to a rocking response at the box office collection centres on Diwali day garnering about 11.03 crores, while Simbu’s Podaa Podi, which has opened as a decorous family entertainer  has also done its best on its opening day, collecting about 5.02 crores.

Thuppakki’s tremendous collection of 11.03 crores has surpassed the recent box office super hit movie of Suriya’s Mattrran, which garnered 9.5 crore on its opening day. Vijay’s movie has also managed to beat all other big Bollywood releases, Shahrukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar in Tamil Nadu, including Silambarasan’s Podaa Podi at the collection centres.

In majority of theatres, the occupancy registration was 100 %. However, Shahrukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan that was released in around 38 screens in Tamil Nadu, was not a threat to Vijay’s Thuppakki in the state.

Early reports had said that Thuppakki has created a roaring business not only in the state but also in the other states of South India and International markets. Trade analysts predict Thuppakki would cross 50 crore in its first weekend.

Taran Adarsh, film critic tweeted, “Tamil film #Thuppakki is shining Overseas, despite the overpowering competition posed by #JTHJ and #SOS. Excellent!”

AR Murugadoss’ movies have always given out good results in his previous movies, by boasting his slick technical values; his recent Diwali release Thuppakki will also not be an exception.

At the same time, Tamil dance and romance film, Podaa Podi directed and written by debutant director Vignesh Shivan, which features Silambarasan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in lead roles has given a Hollywood kind of feel good romantic flick and has shown a good collection on the opening day, next in line to Vijay’s Thuppakki.
